Running Verify and Repair

Note: This content is no longer updated. For the latest content, please go to the user guide for M-Files Online. For information on the supported product versions, refer to our lifecycle policy.

The Verify and Repair (Thorough) operation does these checks:

  • Makes sure that the database is intact.
  • Makes sure that all the data has been saved correctly to M-Files.
  • Makes sure that the file sizes and the file checksums of the physical files in the vault data server location match those reported by the metadata database.

Important remarks

It is important to undestand these details before you start:

  • The operation can be long and it is good practice to plan a service break for it. The length of the operation is mainly dependent on:
  • M-Files can repair some errors automatically. If you see errors that cannot be repaired automatically, do not try to repair them yourself and do not close the dialog. Instead, contact support@m-files.com.

Run the operation one or two times each year and before a migration from Firebird to Microsoft SQL Server.

  1. Open M-Files Admin.
  2. In the left-side tree view, expand a connection to M-Files server.
  3. Expand Document Vaults.
  4. Right-click a vault.
  5. Click Maintenance > Verify and Repair (Thorough).

The selected document vault is verified and repaired.

Tip: The vault can be used when the Verify and Repair operation is finding issues in the vault. If issues are found, run the operation when the vault is offline. To do this, enable this option with Advanced Vault Settings: Database > Verification > Take the Vault Offline and then do the operation. It can be useful to disable the Take the Vault Offline option when you are done.
