Setting Up Web and Mobile Access to M-Files

Note: This content is no longer updated. For the latest content, please go to the user guide for M-Files Online. For information on the supported product versions, refer to our lifecycle policy.

This section tells you how to get access to the classic M-Files Web and M-Files Mobile.

For users to get access to your organization's on-premises vaults with a mobile device, configure the access to the classic M-Files Web because it is the connection point for the mobile apps with its M-Files Web Service REST API services. In cloud-based deployments, you can use mobile apps without any configuration.

Tip: Administrators can create links to help the end users' vault connection process for mobile devices. The end user only has to open the link with their mobile device and write their username and password. After a successful connection, the vault connection information is saved to the device. For more details and examples, see the document M-Files URL Properties.

Enabling push notifications for the M-Files mobile apps

You can enable push notifications for M-Files Mobile by following the instructions in Setting Up Push Notifications for the M-Files Mobile Apps.

Federated authentication and pre-shared keys

For additional security, M-Files can be configured to require a pre-shared key in addition to the user's username and password. This provides an additional level of security without requiring users to open a VPN connection for accessing M-Files. For more information, see Accessing M-Files Vaults without VPN. If your organization is using federated identity management, refer to Using Federated Authentication with M-Files.
