That‚Äôs why we‚Äôve committed to put sustainable technologies at the heart of our innovation‚ÄĒto make sure we are adapting and growing along with the planet with the lowest environmental impact.

Beyond “Business As Usual”

Carbon Footprint

Carbon footprint management is an essential part of M-Files ESG program.

M-Files is conducting the carbon footprint calculation annually. By calculating the carbon footprint, we can ensure that the climate impacts of our most significant operations are determined. By calculating the carbon footprint, the largest emission sources can be identified and consequently plan and target emission reductions correctly. Based on the results of the carbon footprint calculation, the calculated emissions can be offset with certified emission reductions (to achieve carbon neutrality).

The calculated total carbon footprint of M Files in 2021 was 476 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (t CO2e).

The calculation of the carbon footprint is based on the internationally recognized Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol) calculation guidelines, Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard is applied. In accordance with the standard, mandatory scopes 1 and 2 have been included in the calculation. In addition, the main emission sources from the voluntary scope 3 were identified and when applicable, included in the calculation.¬† The GHG protocol standards ‚ÄúGreenhouse Gas Protocol Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Accounting and Reporting Standard‚ÄĚ and ‚ÄúProduct Life cycle Standard‚ÄĚ were applied in the calculation of scope 3 emissions.

The calculation and reporting of the carbon footprint has been carried out by Nordic Offset Oy.

Carbon Neutrality

The carbon footprint of M Files in 2021 was 476 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent (t CO 2 e). The most significant source of emissions was business travelling, which accounted for approximately 43 % of the total emissions. The second largest source of emissions was purchased electricity (33 %) and the third largest purchased district heating (22 %).

We continue the work on reducing our emissions, e.g. by exploring options to switch to renewable or nuclear electricity in all office premises and by using lower-emission or even carbon-neutral district heating products when available.

M-Files has purchased Gold Standard certified emission reduction credits to offset the calculated 476 tonnes of CO2 emissions of 2021. https://registry.goldstandard.org/credit-blocks/details/272274
