M-Files document manager software already integrates automatically with all Windows applications that saves and opens digital documents.  You can go further to include more complex M-Files procedures with M-Files’ free object-based API.

With the API module you can create link your existing databases into M-Files indexing, or create your own modification to regularly used business applications to shorten workflows.  For instance, you can make a custom user interface (UI) for any Windows application through the M-Files API using Microsoft Visual Basic.  Here you can set up particular M-Files queries and embed them as objects within your custom or existing application:

You can also embed output from M-Files into Microsoft Excel, which is works great for customizable reporting that list file locations for reference.  You can even display continually changing document content within the worksheet with real-time updates.  Here, too, you set up the M-Files action as an object, which you can operate inside Excel as a Macro:
